New library – Todd Dunkelberg.
10K library cards per year. Other things: outreach, book club, senior, reach almost every student in Deschutes county, over 100,000 attend programs, author-author program raises money, law support, social services connections, invested in e-books, e-audio, 1st run movies, increase in attendance because more can attend, can browse for up to 30 minutes, reduced hours, and no volunteers,
Move staff out of downtown bend library, so will increase space available to public. New library will be a central library for Deschutes Library. On the edge of Boyd Acres. Expanded children’s areas in all buildings. Need to get the planning done to add to the city. Want to have this completed within 5 years. Will add some staff –maybe 15-20. CET will have service nearby. Lots of questions.
Intend to reduce congestion, reduce signal associated crashes, provide predictability, improve bicycle and pedestrian access. It is using grant money from the feds, Trimmed down and changed from previous plan. Goal is start next march. Try to give folks 18 months to move. 97 will be realigned and will be separated from Cooley. Will have some different options from 3rd to 97. Cooley and BNSF will remain as is. 30 million to separate and would eliminate several houses. Do not want to put heavy truck traffic on Cooley. Want trucks to use Empire or a proposed northern connection between Cooley and Old Deschutes. Acquiring property between 97 and the RR. Completion by 2024. Extension of bus system – the library and Empire improvements are being discussed. Should be less noise with fewer intersection as braking and stopping are major noise components.
