Cochairs of the Citizens Transportation Advisory Committee Ruth Williamson and Mike Riley provided some insight to how the 20 year Transportation System Plan (TSP) is being developed for BANA residents this week. The 25 member committee has studied Bend's transportation needs and problems in order to recommend to the City Council various projects, programs and policies that will improve transportation in our town.
Planning for the next 20 years must be based upon travel patterns today and the projections for transportation needs in the future. The Citizens Transportation Advisory Committee has spent the past year gathering data and conducting public workshops to determine what Bend residents want and need.
Mike Riley a CTAC cochair who briefed BANA residents recently said a funding committee was simultaneously looking at existing funding sources and identifying potential sources for the estimated $225 million budget for roads, transit services and programs to move people around the city.
Ruth Williamson, also cochair, reported extensive public outreach has involved 280 persons. But she urged BANA members to attend CTAC meetings and continue to express needs and point out areas for improvement including sidewalk and road connections.
