In attendance: Chair Don Leonard, Secretary Larry Kierulff, Vice Chair Joette Storm, Land Use Chair Jim Beauchemin, Jeff Silverman, guest speakers Shay Mikalson, Quinn Keever, Jim Figurski and 9 others from the sign up sheet.
Don Leonard called the meeting to order and introduced Bend Metro Parks and Rec District Landscape (BMPRD) Architect Jim Figurski who presented expansion plans for the Bend Senior Center noting that completion is about 3 years away, it will cost $21.4 million from the general fund and will include several warm water fitness features. Jim introduced BMPRD planner Quinn Keever who explained that the comprehension 10-year plan needs an update and is seeking public input though a survey by 3/31/17. The plan should be completed April 2018.
Don L. introduced Bend LaPine School District Superintendent Shay Mikalson who presented the case for approving a $268 million bond at the May 16 election.
On the subject of Welcome Kit Grant project, Joette S. reported that a team is working with a web designer to improve the BANA website and allow it to host a welcome to the neighborhood landing page that will lead to useful information for new residents. $768 of $3500 has been spent so far. Larry K said the board would be asking for content ideas from the membership. Joette distributed some postcards.
Land Use Activity reported by Jim B. included an expansion request from Bridge 99. This led to a discussion of high-density development and traffic. Jim also reported on the Speed Monitoring Sign Program that has started already.
